The US military shoots down drones launched from areas controlled by the Houthi

The United States shot down four drones that targeted an American destroyer in the Red Sea. The drones were launched on Saturday from areas controlled by Yemen's Houthi group, US Central Command said.

"This is the 14th or 15th case that Houthi militants have carried out attacks on merchant ships since October 17," the US military announced in a post on the X network.

Militants from the Iran-linked Houthi group, which controls much of Yemen, have disrupted world trade for weeks by carrying out attacks on ships passing through the Bab al-Mandab strait at the southern end of the Red Sea. which they say they are doing in retaliation for Israel's war in Gaza.

United States Naval Forces Central Command said it responded to distress calls from two ships that came under attack.
