Trump will not participate in the presidential debates

The former president of the United States of America, Donald Trump, has said that he will not participate in the future debates of candidates for next year's presidential elections from the ranks of the Republican Party. He cited his large lead in the polls as evidence that he is already known and liked by voters.

In recent months, Trump has suggested he will not take part in the debate scheduled for August 23, arguing that it makes no sense to give his Republican rivals opportunities to attack him when he has a significant lead in national polls.

On August 20, Trump emerged as the favorite to win the Republican Party's presidential nomination in a CBS poll. According to this poll, 62 percent of Republican voters call Trump their favorite candidate, while 16 percent favor his main rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

"The public knows who I am and what a successful presidency I've had," Trump said on his social media platform, Truth Social. "Therefore, he will not participate in the debates."

Trump's absence from this week's debate could make DeSantis the target of attacks from other candidates seeking to be seen as the primary alternative to former President Trump. The winner from the ranks of the Republican Party will face the Democratic president, Joe Biden, in the November 2024 elections./ CNA
