STATEMENT OF ASSOCIATION WITH THE JOINT STATEMENT OF G7 COUNTRIES ON SUPPORT FOR UKRAINE
Russia's illegal and unprovoked occupation of Ukraine remains a threat to international peace and security. The cost so far, in human lives, economic stagnation and environmental destruction, has been catastrophic for the Ukrainian people.
We salute them for their courageous resistance in defense of our shared values, including democracy, human rights and world peace and stability. We also express our deepest regrets and condolences for their losses and sufferings.
The consequences of the conflict have also affected beyond the borders of Ukraine. In an effort to draw attention away from its illegal war, Russia is attempting to destabilize the Western Balkans, with the help of its main autocratic allies in the region.
From the first day of the conflict, the Republic of Kosovo is standing by Ukraine and its people, without reservation. We immediately condemned the invasion and joined the US and EU sanctions against Russia. We have also expressed our willingness to accept up to 5,000 refugees from the conflict and have welcomed 18 Ukrainian journalists to Kosovo, offering them a safe place to continue their mission to speak truth to power.
As Russia's illegal war drags on, well into its second year, the Republic of Kosovo, through this letter, joins the G7 Joint Declaration on Support for Ukraine. Now more than ever, the democratic world must speak with one voice, toward a common goal. Securing victory for the Ukrainian people, and holding Russia's leaders accountable for their crimes, is essential to maintaining peace and democracy in Europe and beyond. Therefore, the Republic of Kosovo remains ready to contribute to the efforts foreseen in the Joint Declaration and fully supports the goals and values ??announced in it. / CNA
