Meeting with Mitsotakis/ President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola

The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, arrived in Athens this Friday for several meetings of political importance. Metsola was received at the Maximou Residence by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, where they held a conversation on some of the issues of importance for Europe, such as the geopolitical challenges of the European Union, the war in Ukraine and the economic progress of Greece.

Among other things, Metsola underlined the EU's determination to end the Ukraine-Russia war.

 "We remain determined to help the EU end this war. Any agreement must be sustainable and fair, based on the principle of "nothing for Ukraine without Ukraine". I thank Greece for its continued supply of liquefied natural gas to Ukraine, as an important lifeline as winter approaches and a boost for transatlantic cooperation," Metsola said.

The President of the European Parliament also focused on migration, as Greece is among the countries that constantly faces waves of illegal immigrants arriving on Greek shores, with the aim of settling in one of the European Union countries.

Metsola said migration remains a top priority for the EP, which is working to speed up asylum procedures, increase returns and draw on Greece's experience to shape future policies. /CNA
