"Mogherini" scandal/ EC Rector resigns from post

Federica Mogherini has resigned from her position as rector of the College of Europe. Mogherini herself announced this in an email sent to staff and students of the prestigious Bruges school.

" In accordance with the utmost regularity and correctness with which I have always exercised my duties, I have decided today to resign from the post of Rector of the College of Europe and Director of the Diplomatic Academy of the European Union," Mogherini wrote.

Mogherini, who was detained on Tuesday along with two others as part of a fraud investigation involving the European External Action Service and the College of Europe, was released in the early hours of Wednesday.

They were questioned and formally charged with fraud and corruption in procurement, conflict of interest, violation of professional secrecy and unfair competition. The judges decided to release them from their cells and investigate them at large. 

"After being questioned by the Belgian Federal Judicial Police, the three individuals were officially informed of the charges against them. The charges relate to fraud and corruption in procurement, conflict of interest and breach of professional secrecy. They have been released as they are not considered a flight risk ," the judges informed./CNA
