In the Assembly of North Macedonia, the examination of the proposal of the country's government for the beginning of the procedures for changing the Constitution of the Republic of North Macedonia began today.

The approval of this government's proposal for starting the procedures for amending the Constitution requires a majority of 2/3 in the Parliament, which the government of Dimitar Kovacevski does not have.

The debate on the initiative to change the Constitution in the Assembly lasted almost three hours. The Speaker of the Assembly, Talat Xhaferi, interrupted the session and the vote will be rescheduled. He said that the voting will take place when there are conditions, that is, when a two-thirds majority is secured, or when 80 out of a total of 120 deputies vote "for".  If the required majority is not reached during the voting, the process for constitutional changes ends.

Prime Minister Dimitar Kovacevski, speaking at the beginning of today's session of the Assembly, called on all the deputies of the country to support the proposal for the amendment of the Constitution, in order to advance the country's European path.

 "Our party and coalition have absolute unity for voting on constitutional amendments. Deputy Ilija Nikolovski from the "Pensioners' Party" had a problem with pressing the relevant button, the button of the voting system, but in order not to request an individual re-vote, the agenda was allowed to be voted with 70 votes. MP Dime Velkovski has stated today that he will be absent, which does not mean that he will not be present in the upcoming sessions. We have no information that any MP from our ranks wants to resign", said Dimitar Kovacevski, head of the Government./ CNA
