10 years since the Brexit referendum/ 57% of Britons believe it was a mistake

Today marks 10 years since the referendum in which the British voted to leave the European Union, and polls show that public opinion is still trying to assess the consequences of this choice.

As Keir Starmer resigns to hand over the reins to Britain's seventh prime minister in a decade, the current political instability has its roots in the Brexit turmoil that followed David Cameron's resignation after the 2016 referendum.

A YouGov poll this month to mark the 10th anniversary of the referendum found that only 30% of Britons now believe leaving the EU was the right choice.

The corresponding figure was 64% when the vote was held on June 23, 2016.

However, today, a clear majority (57%) believe that leaving was a mistake, while six in ten believe that Brexit is an overall failure.
