First Lady Jill Biden is infected with COVID-19

First Lady Jill Biden was diagnosed Monday with COVID-19 with mild symptoms, her spokeswoman announced.

President Joe Biden took a test after the announcement of his wife's infection, but it turned out that he was not affected by the disease. The White House said the president will be monitored and will continue to be tested regularly.

Until she recovers, First Lady Jill Biden will stay at home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, communications director Elizabeth Alexander said. On Tuesday she was expected to begin the new academic year at Northern Virginia College, where she is an English teacher.

Because of her health condition, Ms. Biden is working with school authorities to find a temporary replacement for her classes, Ms. Alexander said.


The First Lady traveled with her husband to Florida on Saturday to inspect the damage caused by Hurricane Idalia. President Biden then spent the weekend at their home in Delaware. On Monday he attended an event in Philadelphia and then returned to the White House.
