Putin: Russia and China are not creating a military alliance

The US Defense Department said there were no indications Russia was preparing to use nuclear weapons, after Moscow announced it would deploy tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus.
"We have seen reports of Russia's announcement and will continue to monitor this situation," the US Department of Defense said in a statement.
"We have seen no reason to change our strategic nuclear posture, or any indication that Russia is preparing to use nuclear weapons. We remain committed to the collective defense of the NATO alliance," the US said.
On March 25, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had reached an agreement to deploy tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of his close ally, Belarus, which borders both Russia and Ukraine.
Ukrainian officials have said that with this agreement, Belarus has become a "nuclear hostage" of Moscow.
Russia has launched its invasion of Ukraine on February 24, 2022, using Belarusian territory to send troops into Ukraine. Belarus, Russia's ally, denies that it is a party to the conflict./ REL
