Serbs in the north protest because of license plates

In North Mitrovica, one of four Serb-majority municipalities in northern Kosovo, a protest has been called by Lista Serbe - the largest party of Serbs in Kosovo, which enjoys the support of official Belgrade.

This protest was called because of Pristina's decision to re-register cars with Serbian license plates KM (Mitrovice of Kosovo) to RKS - Republic of Kosovo license plates.

The Serbian List has announced earlier that the protest is being organized to show "unity and to tell Europe, unanimously, that Serbia is their country".

The chairman of the Serbian List, Goran Rakiq, has said that the decision to leave Kosovo's institutions will be in force until "Prishtina begins to respect public international law and the agreements agreed in Brussels".

The Serbian List has also requested that the Government of Kosovo withdraw the decision on the re-registration of cars.

It is believed that in Kosovo there are about 10,000 cars with license plates issued by the authorities in Serbia. The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has called on the Serbs not to abandon the institutions of Kosovo and not to fall prey to "political manipulations and geopolitical games".
