Russia: We shot down 30 Ukrainian drones over two regions

Russia's Defense Ministry said its air defenses shot down 29 Ukrainian drones over the Belgorod region and one over the Voronezh region on Tuesday morning.

Belgorod Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said a woman was killed and four other people were wounded during drone strikes in the village of Velovskoye and the towns of Stroitel and Yakovlevsky.

Local media reported that residential houses and vehicles were damaged during the attacks.

Ukraine has not commented on Russia's claims, which could not be independently verified.

Cities in the western part of Russia have faced constant drone attacks since May 2023. For these attacks, Russian officials have blamed Kiev.

Ukrainian officials never claim responsibility for attacks on Russian territory, or on the occupied Crimean Peninsula.

The Belgorod region in particular has been the target of major attacks. In December 2023, 25 people were killed in an attack in downtown Belgorod.

The war in Ukraine started on February 24, 2022.

Russian President Vladimir Putin calls the war a "special military operation" to demilitarize Ukraine.

The West has responded to Russia, hitting the economy of this country with harsh sanctions.
