Russia claims to be in control of a key Ukrainian city

Russia claimed on Sunday to have captured the strategic Ukrainian city of Lysichansk and the entire frontline region of Luhansk, which would mark a decisive advance for Moscow's forces seeking control of the country's east.

The development came after Belarus said it had intercepted missiles fired from Kiev and Russia reported that Ukraine fired three missiles at Belgorod, killing four people.

Të shtunën, pati raporte kontradiktore në lidhje me statusin e Lisiçansk kur Ukraina mohoi pretendimin e Moskës se kishte rrethuar të gjithë qytetin, i vendosur përtej lumit nga fqinji Severodonjeck, të cilin forcat ruse kapën javën e kaluar.

Ukraina nuk ka komentuar ende mbi pretendimin se Lisiçansk rënë pas luftimeve intensive.

“Sergei Shoigu ka informuar komandantin e përgjithshëm të forcave të armatosura ruse, Vladimir Putin, për çlirimin e Republikës Popullore të Luhanskut”, tha ministria e mbrojtjes në një deklaratë të cituar nga agjencitë ruse të lajmeve.
