Turkey has blocked the access of foreign media "Deutsche Welle" and "Voice of America". As of Thursday, the two websites are not accessible in Turkey.

The Turkish Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTUK) said both media outlets did not comply with the "law" and did not apply for a license within the required period. 

RTUK's statement said the two outlets needed a broadcasting license in February because they had "programme" sections.

"Deutsche Welle" është transmetues ndërkombëtar publik gjerman, shtetëror, i financuar nga taksapaguesit gjermanë. "Zëri i Amerikës" drejtohet nga Agjencia Amerikane për Media Globale (USAGM), një agjenci qeveritare e financuar nga Kongresi Amerikan. 

"DW" tha në një deklaratë se nuk ishte në përputhje me rregullat sepse "licencimi do të kishte lejuar qeverinë turke të censuronte përmbajtjen editoriale".

"Medieve të licencuara në Turqi u kërkohet të fshijnë përmbajtjet në internet që RTUK i interpreton si të papërshtatshme. Kjo është thjesht e papranueshme për një transmetues të pavarur", u shpreh Peter Limbourg, drejtori i Përgjithshëm i "DW", teksa bëri të ditur se do të ndërmarrë veprime ligjore kundër bllokimit.

Meanwhile, the acting director of "Voice of America", Yolanda López, said that they "strongly oppose" RTUK's decision, which she describes as "a covert attempt to censor unfavorable press reporting".

On the other hand, RTUK said that it operates on a legal basis and that there is no need for anyone to "unnecessarily worry about the freedom of expression and the press"./ BA – CNA.al
