Another crane collapses in Thailand / Two people die, construction company sued

Two people have died after a construction crane collapsed on a highway in Thailand, a day after another similar train accident killed 32 people. The crane was being used to build a highway in Samut Sakhon, a suburb of Bangkok.

On Wednesday in the northeastern province of Nakhon Ratchasima, a crane fell on a moving train, injuring more than 60 people. Construction work in both accidents is being carried out by the same company, Italian-Thai Development, one of Thailand's largest builders.

About 150 people have died over the past seven years in numerous accidents on a road improvement project from Bangkok to the south of the country.

The highway where Thursday's collapse occurred had been nicknamed "Death Road" because of several accidents there in recent years. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said he would address the issue of construction negligence after Wednesday's accident.

The State Railway of Thailand has also said it is suing the Italian-Thai Development Company. The company is also responsible for building a skyscraper in Bangkok that collapsed last March during an earthquake, when no other buildings in the city collapsed. /CNA
