Appeal in Kosovo reduces sentence for seller of gun suspected of killing

The Kosovo Court of Appeals has decided to reduce the sentence of Tom Dodajt, accused of selling the weapon with which Liridona Ademaj was allegedly killed in November 2023.

Dodaj, who pleaded guilty to the unauthorized sale of weapons, was sentenced in February 2025 to five years in prison and a fine of 5,000 euros. The Appeals Court reduced this sentence to three years in prison and a fine of 3,000 euros.

The Court of Appeal considered the initial sentence "harsh" and cited several factors for its reduction: Dodaj's admission of guilt, his apology to the victim's family, and the fact that he had been unaware of the use of the weapon he had sold.

“The court also found that this was the first time the defendant had violated the law. The special circumstances show that even with a lower sentence the punitive purpose envisaged by the Code of Criminal Procedure can be achieved,” the Court of Appeal stated.
