Massive protest in Madrid / Demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Pedro

Massive anti-government protests have taken place in Madrid, Spain, with participants taking to the streets demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

Demonstrators, many waving red and yellow Spanish flags and holding placards reading "Enough!", marched through the streets of Madrid on Saturday behind a large banner that read: "Corruption has a price. Enough with impunity. Resignation and elections now."

The protest was called by a group of more than 150 civic associations called Sociedad Civil Espanola and was supported by the conservative Popular Party (PP) and the far-right Vox party. Organizers said around 120,000 people took part. 

Sanchez, who came to power in 2018 after using a no-confidence vote to topple the corruption-ridden conservative PP government, has vowed to continue, despite widespread corruption allegations surrounding his circle.

His brother, David, is scheduled to stand trial for corruption. His wife, Begona Gomez, is also under investigation in a separate corruption case. Sanchez has dismissed the cases against his family as politically motivated. /CNA
