Preparations for the big meeting/ Donald Trump: Putin won't play with me

US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are preparing for a long-awaited summit in Alaska over the war in Ukraine.

Trump says Putin won't "play with me" in their first face-to-face meeting in six years.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been conspicuously excluded from the talks and has warned that decisions made in his absence will be meaningless.

Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, with tens of thousands of soldiers killed on both sides.

According to foreign media reports, at 06:45 EDT (11:45 BST), the US president is expected to leave the White House for Anchorage, Alaska, where the talks will take place.

Trump and Putin are expected to begin discussions around 11:00 local time (20:00 BST).

They will meet face to face, accompanied only by their translators.

The US president is scheduled to leave Anchorage and return to the White House at around 5:45 p.m. Alaska time (2:45 a.m. BST on Saturday)./ CNA
