Beijing/ 11 people lost their lives and 27 disappeared from the floods

At least 11 people have died and 27 are missing after floods hit Beijing after record rainfall, Chinese state media reported today.

Heavy rains are falling for a fourth day in Beijing and surrounding cities after a typhoon brought persistent downpours and flooding to northern China, Reuters reported. 

More than 100 mountain roads have been closed in the Chinese capital since Monday night and more than 52,000 people have been evacuated from their homes. Several subway lines in Beijing, including in the western suburbs, were suspended.

The city government announced that the rainfall of the last few days has exceeded the records set during a strong storm 11 years ago. In July 2012, Beijing was hit by the strongest storm since the founding of modern China./ CNA.al
