France denies it is planning to intervene militarily in Niger

The Foreign Minister of France denied the accusations of the new jute in Niger that Paris is planning to carry out military intervention in this country.

The coup plotters in Niamey earlier on July 31 accused France of planning military intervention.

"In search of ways and means for military intervention in Niger, France in collaboration with some Niger nationals have held a meeting with the general staff of the Niger National Guard to obtain the necessary political and military authorizations", they said at length in the address in national television.

"It is wrong", said the French Foreign Minister, Catherine Colonna, responding to these accusations. She added that there is still a "chance" that President Mohamed Bazoum, who was ousted by the military, will return to the leadership of Niger.

"This is necessary because destabilization is dangerous for Niger and its neighbors," said Colonna.

Bazoum, an ally of the West, was elected president of Niger two years ago. He was ousted from power on July 26 by the elite Presidential Guard.

The head of this guard, General Abdourahamane Tiani, declared himself the leader of the Sahel state, but this claim of his has not been recognized internationally and has been condemned. The internationals have given him a deadline of one week to hand over power.

On Sunday, French President Emmanuel Macron vowed "immediate and uncompromising" action if French citizens or interests are attacked, as thousands protested outside the French Embassy in Niamey.

Some protesters tried to enter the embassy building. Minister Colonna also said that the protest was "organized and not spontaneous, it was violent, very dangerous, and molotov cocktails were used. Russian flags were waved there and slogans against France were heard."
