Parisians disappointed with the failure of the motion of no confidence

Parisians expressed disappointment on Tuesday (March 21st) after the failure of no-confidence motions against the government of French President Emmanuel Macron. Paris police say more than 200 people were arrested overnight in the capital, mostly for setting fire to rubbish on the streets.

French President Emmanuel Macron is looking to continue working on new reforms in the coming weeks after his government narrowly survived a no-confidence motion on Monday (March 20th) over an unpopular pension reform.

"Only nine votes saved the government from a motion of no confidence. I worry about myself and others. I chose a profession that I love, so working for another two years is not a problem. But people in the social services sector, are really the main victims", says Suzannne, a social worker.

Polls show that most French are against the reform. The anger was felt as protesters took to the streets in cities across the country. Opposition lawmakers vowed to force another vote and unions were preparing for nationwide action./ VOA
