The President of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, announced on Wednesday that she will set the date for holding local elections in the coming days.
Osmani's statement comes after a meeting he held with leaders of Kosovo's political entities.
Albin Kurti, in his capacity as the chairman of the Vetëvendosje Movement, was not present at the meeting, but the party was represented by Albulena Haxhiu.
Representatives of the Serbian List - the largest party of Kosovo Serbs - were not seen at the meeting either.
Albulena Haxhiu said that October 5, 12 or 19 are the dates that were mentioned the most during the meeting to hold the elections.
The last local elections in Kosovo were held in October 2021.
The Democratic League of Kosovo came out first, followed by the Vetëvendosje Movement and the Democratic Party of Kosovo.
Discussions about local elections are taking place at a time when Kosovo still does not have a new Government, as a result of the failure to constitute the Kosovo Assembly, although parliamentary elections were held on February 9 of this year.
On June 4, the Assembly failed to convene for the 26th time.
The Vetevendosje Movement, which won the most votes in the February 9 elections, and the parties that were in opposition in the previous legislature, have not reached an agreement on the method of voting for the new speaker of parliament, and on the LVV's proposal for this position, Albulena Haxhiu, considering her a divisive figure.
The deputies must elect the president and five vice presidents to finally constitute the new Assembly.
Only after the constitution of the Assembly can the new Government be formed.
Diplomatic representatives of the QUINT countries [United States, Great Britain, Italy, France and Germany] as well as the Head of the European Union Office in Kosovo, met a few days ago with the acting Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, requesting the rapid formation of institutions to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the citizens of Kosovo./ REL
