The Montenegrin government led by Dritan Abazovic has approved the Basic Agreement, which should regulate relations between Montenegro and the Serbian Orthodox Church.
Of the 18 ministers present, 13 of them voted in favor while 5 abstained, writes Euronews Serbia.
Prime Minister Abazovic stated that the agreement has been approved and there is a possibility that the vote will be repeated in the next session or electronically.
"If necessary, the vote will be held again after seven days. I cannot speak on behalf of the people who are not present today, how they want to vote, if there is a dilemma, there is no problem to vote electronically in the next session", he said.
Deputy Prime Minister Rashko Konjevic said that Abazovic's government is losing the parliamentary majority that has supported it so far.
"Consultations regarding this document must be done before the approval and if the approval is done without it, this government has lost the majority and we will request elections", said Konjevic.
Thousands of citizens gathered on Thursday night in Podgorica to protest against the signing of this agreement.
The protesters carried national and European Union flags as well as banners that read that Prime Minister Abazovic "will answer for his misdeeds". /CNA.al
