Hamas militants free two Israeli women/their husbands, still among the hostages

The Hamas attack on October 7 led to the capture of more than 200 people from Israel who are being held in the Gaza Strip. 

The Israeli military believes a total of 222 people were taken prisoner by Hamas. But yesterday evening two Israeli hostages were released by Hamas.

The news was confirmed by the office of the prime minister of Israel through a published statement. 

It is about two Israeli women, Nurit Cooper and Yocheved Lifshitz, whose husbands are still among the hostages.

Hamas said in a statement that it had released them for humanitarian reasons. 

We recall that on Friday of last week, two American-Israeli women, Judith Raanan and her daughter Natalie, were released.

It is believed that the captives in Gaza include young children, festival goers, peace activists, the elderly and soldiers.

Hamas released videos of the hostages on social media platforms, such as TikTok, shortly after they were kidnapped.

The militant group said it hid the hostages in "safe places and tunnels" inside Gaza./ CNA
