With the largest iconostasis in the world/ Romania inaugurates the National

The Romanian Patriarchate has inaugurated the National Orthodox Cathedral, in a ceremony led by Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew I of Constantinople and Patriarch Daniel of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

The People's Salvation Cathedral, located in the capital Bucharest, will break a number of world records, including being the tallest (132 m) and largest by surface area (6,000 sq m) and volume (323,000 sq m). It will also have the largest Orthodox iconostasis in the world and the largest freely swinging church bell in the world.

After 1989, the Romanian Orthodox Church took the initiative to launch the project of the People's Salvation Cathedral. Patriarch Teoctist supported its construction, and his successor, Patriarch Daniel, supervised the construction of the main structure, the dome, and the bell tower.

The cornerstone of the People's Salvation Cathedral was consecrated in 2007, but construction itself began in December 2010.
