Migrant boat sinks/16 people die in the Mediterranean Sea

Two migrant boats sank in the Mediterranean Sea, killing 16 people, with 7 dead when one boat capsized off the coast of Greece and 9 others on a shipwreck off the coast of neighboring Turkey.

Seven people, including two children, died and 23 others were rescued when a boat carrying migrants capsized on the Greek island of Lesbos, the coast guard said.

The coast guard initially said four bodies had been discovered in the Aegean Sea, but after a search by patrol boats, three more were found.

The boat was carrying around 30 people and capsized in calm weather, just off the coast of neighboring Turkey.

The victims included four women, a boy and a young girl, the coast guard said. No details were given about the other three, including their country of origin.
