Lukashenko: Belarus destroyed drones launched by Ukraine

The Belarusian authoritarian leader, Alexander Lukashenko, said on Saturday that the air defense of Belarus destroyed several targets on its territory on Friday, which were launched from Ukraine, and which are believed to have been drones.

He did not provide evidence that the equipment was Ukrainian. Even Ukraine has not commented on these claims.

According to Lukashenko, "dozens" of targets have violated Belarusian airspace in the eastern Mogilev region, bordering Russia.

For this reason, Minsk has raised the level of alert to the highest level in the air force and air defense forces.

Lukashenko said through a video published by the state media, Belta, that the other targets were "transferred" to Russia and were later destroyed around the city of Yaroslavl.

Earlier on Saturday, the Russian Ministry of Defense said it had identified six drones in the Yaroslavl region.

Lukashenko is among the closest allies of the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, and supports the war launched by Moscow in Ukraine in 2022.

The two leaders and their countries have been targeted with harsh sanctions from the West.
