France's Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne on Monday survived the first motion of no confidence in Parliament, a motion sponsored by the left-wing opposition.

The motion - which required 289 votes to pass - was supported by 146 MPs in the 57-member National Parliament. The vote followed a three-hour debate.

The Inflexible France (LFI) party raised the motion against Borne, who leads the minority Government. However, the prime minister was not in danger as the other opposition parties declared before the vote that they would not support the motion.

Gjatë debatit, kryeministrja franceze akuzoi partinë LFI se po humb kohën parlamentare për tema më të rëndësishme.

“Zonja dhe zotërinj, sot ne do të mund të punonim për të mirë e popullit francez. Por, në vend të kësaj ne po debatojmë për mocionin e mosbesimit, që bazohet në synimet e mia të pretenduara dhe që po pengon punën e Parlamentit, njëherësh edhe dëshirën e popullit francze”, tha Borne para votimit.

Borne u emërua në postin e kryeministres në maj nga presidenti Emmanuel Macron, vetëm një muaj para mbajtjes së zgjedhjeve parlamentare, në të cilat, partia centriste që është në pushtet, humbi shumicën.

“Ne nuk do të pranojmë asnjëherë që dikush të mbajë pushtetin e këtij shteti me legjitimitetin e vetëm që është emëruar nga presidenti”, tha ligjvënësi i LFI-së, Alexis Corbiere.

"This is the moment of truth", said the leader of the Parliamentary Group of the LFI, Mathilde Panot.

Borne, 61, has made it clear that she plans to depend on the votes of opposition parties to pass the laws she will bring to Parliament, as the right-wing Republican Party is seen as the key to her future.

The support of 62 Republican deputies would be enough for the Government to pass all the laws in the French Parliament./rel
