Recall that on Saturday, US forces arrested Venezuelan leader Nicolas Maduro, who was taken into custody in New York. US President Donald Trump announced that the United States would "govern" Venezuela until a "proper transition of power" and exploit its vast oil reserves, after Maduro's overthrow.
Maduro appeared in court today to face charges of drug and weapons trafficking. Before the attack, the United States had repeatedly accused Maduro of running a "narco-state" and of rigging the election. /CNA
