Dutch ministers are required to hand over their cellphones before cabinet meetings to avoid the risk of eavesdropping, under a new regulation announced by Prime Minister Dick Schoof.
Schoff proactively banned all electronic devices with microphones, such as smartphones and tablets, from cabinet meetings. He was previously the head of the country's secret service.
According to Interior Minister Judith Jittermark, there is no evidence that foreign secret services are monitoring ministers' phones, but added that the prime minister is seeking security./CNA
