Numerous rockets hit the northern city of Israel, Majdal Shams, near the border with Syria, this evening.

Among the places hit was a soccer field where children and teenagers were playing, Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Daniel Hagari announced.

It is reported that at least 10 people have lost their lives and 29 have been injured, including children.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) blames Hezbollah for the attack.

"According to an assessment of the situation by the IDF and the intelligence we have, the launch of the rocket in the direction of Majdal Shams was carried out by the terrorist organization Hezbollah. The terrorist organization Hezbollah is behind the launch of a rocket at a football field in Majdal Shams, which caused numerous civilian casualties, including children, earlier this evening."

However, Hezbollah spokesman Mohamad Afif denied having anything to do with the incident.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he would cut short his visit to the United States and return to Israel because of the attack.

Israeli President Isaac Herzog called the attack a "terrible and shocking disaster" and vowed that Israel would "protect" its citizens.

This was the deadliest attack in the region since the escalation of tensions between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, when the Israel-Hamas war began./ CNA
