German investigators have raided the properties of a Russian oligarch suspected of tax evasion and violations of European Union sanctions, prosecutors said.
AFP sources said the targeted properties belong to billionaire Alisher Usmanov.
The raids focused on two properties said to belong to Usmanov, 69, in Miesbach, Bavaria.
In the Police announcement, the authorities did not name the suspect, but sources close to the investigation told AFP that it is Usmanov, a close ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin and former head of the International Fencing Federation.
German media earlier this year reported that the authorities had confiscated the yacht "Dalibar", owned by Usmanov.
This yacht was docked in the port of Hamburg since October 2021 for repairs.
In the Sunday Times list, Usmaov in 2021 was ranked sixth in the list of the richest people in the world.
He is one of dozens of Russian billionaires targeted by Western sanctions since Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine on February 24.
Usmanov is believed to be currently living in Uzbekistan, reported Der Speigel./rel
