Fear of immigrants in America / They are abandoning schools and jobs

A sense of fear and anxiety is sweeping through immigrant communities in America as the Trump administration has increased arrests of undocumented immigrants, deeming them criminals and those without criminal records.

Federal officers have arrested thousands of undocumented immigrants since Donald Trump took office on January 20, increasing checks in cities across the country including Chicago, New York, Denver and Los Angeles.

In some communities, the arrests have prompted some immigrants to quit their jobs or keep their children home from school. More than 3,500 undocumented immigrants have been arrested since Trump returned to the White House,

The White House has made it clear that any undocumented immigrants caught by police, whether criminals or not, will be subject to arrest and deportation, even though simply being in the US illegally is only a civil matter. /CNA
