Airstrikes in Beirut/Israel announces ground operations in southern Lebanon

Several airstrikes rocked Beirut's southern suburbs overnight, according to the country's state-run NNA news agency, while Israel announced limited, targeted ground operations against Hezbollah in the south of the country.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it carried out strikes "against multiple terrorist targets with the aim of mitigating threats in the operational environment prior to the entry of its ground troops."

Multiple attacks were reported across southern Lebanon. Lebanon's health ministry said 850 people have been killed and more than 2,100 wounded since the conflict began.

UN peacekeepers said in a statement on Sunday that they were attacked, allegedly by non-state armed groups, while conducting patrols on their bases. No one was injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, Hezbollah said yesterday that it had launched 25 attacks targeting sites in Israel, the Golan Heights and Israel Defense Forces (IDF) positions in Lebanon. /CNA
