It will go down in history/ Zohre Elahian, the first woman to run for the presidential elections in Iran

Zohre Elahian became the first woman to register for Iran's upcoming snap presidential election following the death of President Ebrahim Raisi in a helicopter crash.

According to the Iranian news agency, Elahian announced that the motto of her government would be "healthy government, healthy economy, healthy society".

The former speaker of the Iranian parliament, Ali Larijani, has announced his candidacy for president of the Islamic Republic on Friday.

Larijani was barred from running in the 2021 presidential election based on a decision by the Guardian Council of the Islamic Revolution, which vets candidates.

Among the registered candidates for the presidential elections is the former governor of the central bank of Iran, Abdolnaser Hemati.

Registration of candidates for the presidential elections scheduled for June 28 began in Iran on Thursday.

After the five-day registration period, the Guardian Council will review the presidential candidates./ CNA
