Part of the Iber-Lepenc canal damaged

Kosovo Police have announced that a part of the Ibër-Lepenc canal in Zubin Potok has been damaged "with strong means" by unknown persons.

Petrit Fejza from the Kosovo Police said that the damage was reported yesterday and investigators are now working to solve the case.

" Yesterday, the worker reported that the nylon that was being used was damaged. It is a part of the nylon that was used to lay the canal and was damaged. The relevant units have arrived at the scene and have conducted an investigation. It is a case and investigators are working on this ," he said.

Asked what specific means of violence are suspected of causing the damage, he said that "we do not have any more information."

Reports of damage to this canal come almost a year after an explosion occurred in Ibër-Lepenc, in the village of Varragë.

Kosovo blamed Serbia for the November 29, 2024, explosion, but Belgrade denied the accusations.

Kosovo considers the explosion in the Iber-Lepenc canal a terrorist act.

The United States had stated after the explosion that there was no evidence directly linking Belgrade to the explosion, but that it was too early to draw conclusions. The investigation into the explosion has also involved agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).

The Special Prosecution Office is investigating the November 29th explosion, but no indictments have been filed so far. Dozens of suspects have been arrested in the case and weapons and explosives have been seized.

However, only Dragisa and Jovan Vicentijevic have been remanded in custody.

Kosovo authorities and police have previously stated that around 20 kilograms of explosives were used to blow up the canal and that this was the most serious attack on the country's critical infrastructure in the post-war period.

The damage caused is estimated at around 400 thousand euros. /REL
