CIA reports to President Trump: Ukraine did not try to assassinate Putin

Vladimir Putin is lying about Ukraine launching a drone attack on one of his homes, the CIA has told US President Donald Trump.

Russia's defense ministry on Wednesday released a video claiming to show debris from one of the 91 Ukrainian drones launched at the Valdai presidential residence complex in the northern Novgorod region on Monday.

Ukraine has denied targeting the residence, with a Kiev official calling the footage released by Russia "ridiculous" and accusing Moscow of trying to derail ongoing peace talks with a fake attack.

John Ratcliffe, the CIA director, informed Trump that the Kremlin's claim was false. According to the CIA report, there was an attack, but not near the compound.

In a statement posted on Telegram, Russia's defense ministry said that decoding of the routing data revealed that the ultimate target of the Ukrainian drone attack on December 29, 2025, was a structure at the Russian presidential residence in the Novgorod region.

The Kremlin has said Russia will review its negotiating position in its ongoing talks with the US to end the war in Ukraine over the alleged attack./CNA
