Massive gun attack in the USA/ At least 22 people killed, dozens injured

At least 22 people were killed and several dozen others were injured Wednesday in a mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine, US media reported, citing various law enforcement sources. Until the publication of this news, the exact number of victims is still unknown.

The Lewiston Police Department identified on Facebook a person believed to be connected to the mass shooting at a sports bar. Robert Card, 40, should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.

Maine State Police and a county sheriff's office earlier reported an active shooter but did not provide details.

" There is an active shooter in Lewiston ," Maine State Police wrote on the X Network, asking residents to stay indoors while law enforcement investigated the shooting at several locations.

Law enforcement posted two photos of a suspect on Facebook, saying he had not yet been caught.

Lewiston City Hospital said in a statement that it was "responding to a mass attack with multiple casualties and coordinating with area hospitals to admit patients."

The Sun Journal, a newspaper in the city of Lewiston, quoted a police spokesman as saying that shooting incidents had been reported in three different areas.

President Joe Biden has been briefed and will continue to receive updates, an official in Washington said. The governor of the state of Maine, Janet Mills, said in a statement that she was informed about the situation./ VOA
