Who brought us into the EU, Rama, Putin or Berisha?

Who brought us into the EU, Rama, Putin or Berisha?

Finally the EU woke up. Old, divided, bureaucratic, corrupt, closed, poor, tired Europe gave a green light yesterday, a light that comes too late to Albania.

Probably, everything should have been done about 12 or 13 years ago. It didn't happen like that. It was postponed indefinitely. The conditions changed over the years, the EU's internal political clan interests brought quite a few consequences for Albania.

A small country, like Albania or North Macedonia, the Western Balkans, which has a population several times smaller than some other countries that are part of the EU, but which have even more fundamental problems than these countries.

What we saw yesterday should have happened before, as we pointed out, but finally we have nothing to say, we open a process.

Why was this process initiated?

There is always a why, we must ask. Someone is skeptical, someone is positive, but for the sake of truth, the words of Prime Minister Edi Rama were true, they were striking for the EU. The government has a thousand problems, maybe it has met the conditions or not, it needs another breath.

The opening of chapters, the rapid steps towards the EU must have a spirit of wider cooperation of the political class. Only the majority, which leads the country, cannot go to the EU, since a larger majority of Albanians than that, do not vote or vote for the opposition, are abroad and so on.

So another breath is needed. But still, Rama said many correct words. Not only for the delay that the EU has done without reason towards Albania, but also the fact that, unfortunately, it is probably Putin, Russia's war with Ukraine, the shocks to the foundations of the EU from this war, which make the bureaucrats of the Brussels should turn their eyes from the Western Balkans, turn their eyes from Albania.

Once to unite Albania with North Macedonia, once to separate them, then to settle on their own and so on.

The government may have done little, nothing or a lot for integration. Corruption has problems, the implementation of the law as well, without talking about the interventions in the Constitution, in the law, the Constitutional Court, years without justice institutions, reform, which actually leaves a lot to be desired, excluding SPAK, certain segments of this structure, the rest of the reform is screaming, failed, corrupt.

Therefore, the Government still has work to do, not only it, the parliament, things must be done by everyone together.

Rama told his truth, the truth of the bureaucrats, the truth of the EU, which probably opened the negotiations already because the war in Ukraine happened.

On the other hand, Edi Rama will take the sword once again for the situation, saying that in 2030 we will enter the EU, this was done by Rilindja, the SP, as they said even before the negotiations were opened, after we declared them as a victory for several years in line with the arrival of the Renaissance in power.

Thirdly, our candidate for EU integration is Sali Berisha, who emphasizes that he has done every reform, he has done state formation, he has done great things in Albania and Edi Rama has left the country behind.

Now the matter is very simple. Rama is in power, he has done his thing.

Can he himself introduce us to the EU? Undoubtedly, due to the contribution of the prime minister and the government, we would not enter the EU.

Has Berisha done Reform? He also has his contribution without any discussion. But the greatest truth is what the Prime Minister said.

If we didn't have the war in Ukraine and this conjecture in the EU, maybe the doors would still be closed. Not our fault, but the EU's fault.

Therefore, rather than a quarrel about who has more merit, let them be divided according to the votes of the majority and the minority, but the war in Ukraine also has a great merit.

So, Putin and Russia, as Edi Rama said, forced the EU to turn its eyes from the Western Balkans, perhaps Rama's actions with the Open Balkans and others like this, but finally they turned their heads to see what Albania really needs to integrate, the Western Balkans need to integrate and not be left in the hands of Russia's dirty games or abandoned by EU bureaucrats.

And, to conclude, for those who are more optimistic and skeptical, maybe when Albania enters the EU, the European Union may be more fragmented, smaller, it may not exist, it may have a different format, but one thing is for sure,  the EU is the place where Albanians have admired, adored and dreamed of going here more than 25 years ago./ CNA
