Teacher on maternity leave not replaced, high school students risk matriculation

First and second year students at the "Ismet Nanushi" high school in Durrës have not been taking French lessons since November.

According to them, the absence occurred because the French teacher is on maternity leave and so far no replacement has been found. The students say that they have only taught during the first trimester and then the classes have remained unconducted, while French is the first foreign language and a matura exam.

The school's director, Munir Kaça, says that the institution has requested a solution from the education authorities, but so far no teacher has been found to replace him. According to him, the school has only managed to find a solution for third-year students, while the situation continues for first and second graders.

On the other hand, Burim Shehu, head of Human Resources at the Regional Directorate of Pre-University Education, states that a call has been made through the portal and the acceptance of files to find a French teacher, but so far there has been no interest.

"We have had problems with replacing a teacher, who has received the birth report, has not yet been replaced. She received it at the end of November. French is the first foreign language required in the matriculation exam. When we had the opportunity, we replaced it with other classes, we made some changes to the schedule, within our capabilities. The institutions are definitely aware of it, since it was done and we have asked for it from time to time, but it turns out that there is no teacher on the portal," said Burim Shehu.

According to education expert Ndriçim Mehmeti, such a situation is problematic for students, as the absence of learning for such a long period is difficult to recover, especially when it comes to a mandatory first language in the matriculation exam./ Tv klan
