Despite serving his sentence in a high-security prison in Ecuador, Dritan Rexhepi has not stopped telephone communications with his family, specifically with his mother. This is what journalist Klodiana Lala expressed while commenting on Rexhepi's arrest. Lala said that Dritan Rexhepi's mother revealed this to her in a communication with her three years ago.

" During a conversation with his mother 3 years ago, she told me that while her son was being held in a high security prison in Ecuador, they communicated 3 times a week. Rexhepi was also allowed to go to a public camp where he met his Ecuadorian wife" - said Lala.

According to the journalist, Rexhepi led 14 criminal groups from prison in Ecuador, while a DEA agent described him as one of the main people of the underworld there.

Earlier, the Ecuadorian media revealed that Rexhepi had established strong ties in Bolivia, Ecuador and Costa Rica, but was also involved in hostilities with the cartels.

Dritan Rexhepi, described as the boss of the drug cartel, was arrested on November 10 in Turkey after a collaboration between the Turkish and Italian authorities. Rexhepi escaped from prison in Ecuador and lost all contact with the authorities until it was the Italian police who tracked the movements of his children to reach his apartment in Turkey./ CNA
