The Albanian Bar Association reacted a few moments ago regarding the murder of Judge Astrit Kalaja.

Through a statement from the president, Maksim Haxhia, deep shock is expressed by the incident that occurred within the premises of the Court of Appeal.

The reaction emphasizes that this event is a warning sign for the safety of justice institution employees.

Reaction of the Chamber of Advocates

Deeply shocked by the tragic event, regarding the murder on the court premises of the judge of the Court of Appeal of General Jurisdiction, our colleague and friend, Astrit Kalaja, the body of lawyers conveys its deepest condolences to the family.

This event constitutes not only a serious personal loss for the legal community, but also a serious blow to the entire justice system and the rule of law.

The event should serve as a wake-up call to guarantee safety, primarily of the life and health of judges, prosecutors and lawyers, as well as to reflect on the necessity of strengthening protective measures in justice institutions.

At the same time, this is also a call for the entire advocacy community to deepen efforts to raise awareness among parties in criminal, civil and administrative proceedings regarding the rights they are legally entitled to, as well as to build realistic expectations towards justice and its functioning.
