The court hearing against former Minister of Health, Ilir Beqaj, was accompanied by defiant statements from him, as he rejected accusations of involvement in a "structured criminal group" related to the sterilization contract.

Before the trial panel, Beqaj questioned the way the investigation was conducted, claiming that the prosecution did not conduct on-site verifications of the manner in which the contract was implemented. He invited the court to closely monitor its implementation, emphasizing that the contract expires on March 8.

According to him, the accusations were raised without specifically analyzing the functioning of the service, while he described as unfounded the claim that he and other persons acted as a criminal group for illegal gains.

The hearing did not proceed with further consideration, as the former minister's defense lawyers were absent from the courtroom. The court decided to postpone it to another date.

"I feel like I'm going to say something that's not part of the procedure. The contract we're here for ends on March 8. I would like you to go and see for yourself the reality of the contract. The prosecutors never did. Because according to them, we became a three-person criminal group just to steal. It's an invitation, nothing more. It ends in three weeks and then it makes no sense," Beqaj said before the court./ CNA
