Claims deadlines have been violated/ Meta demands freedom

The Criminal Court of Kosovo will review this Friday the request of the leader of the Freedom Party Ilir Meta to change the security measure of imprisonment.

On Friday, June 20, 2025, at 11:30, a court hearing is expected to be held to review the defense request of the President of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, regarding the assessment of the conditions for the determination of the security measure and the request for the replacement of the "arrest with imprisonment" measure, imposed by the Special Court in October last year.

The hearing will be presided over by Judge Erion Çela, who will decide on the request submitted by Meta's defense.

In the request, the lawyers claim that procedural deadlines have been violated, as more than 8 months have passed since the imposition of the measure and SPAK has not submitted any two-month information, as required by law.

The defense has also presented several decisions of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), bringing to attention analogous cases, including the "Gëlçi" case, to argue that the security measure is unjustified and should be replaced./ CNA
