The Democratic Party's Anti-Corruption Spokesperson, Genta Vangjeli, has denounced a serious case of institutional negligence, where the water utility is penalizing a citizen in serious health and economic condition.
According to her, Arben Kalemaj, diagnosed with a serious heart disease and surviving on only 50 euros of assistance per month, continues to be left without water in his apartment. Despite the fact that the citizen has paid his financial obligations, UKT has not proceeded with the reconnection of the service, leaving him in a survival situation.
Vangjeli considered this treatment an inhumane act.
"The water supply for citizen Arben Kalemaj must be restored immediately. Water is a fundamental right, not a means of punishment for the most disadvantaged."
The Democratic Party denounces the lack of social sensitivity of public institutions and the way in which the most needy citizens are treated.
Citizen Arben Kalemaj, diagnosed with serious illnesses, including lateral STEMI, and other health problems, lives on only about 50 euros in economic assistance per month.
Despite this extremely difficult situation, he has faced the interruption of his water supply due to a delay in paying his two-month bill.
After paying off his financial obligations, Mr. Kalemaj officially requested the water supply to the apartment be reconnected.
Although, according to him, the head of UKT has confirmed that the supply would be restored within a few days, this has not yet happened.
If this is the case, we are dealing with an unacceptable case of institutional negligence and lack of responsibility towards a citizen living in dire health and economic conditions.
No state that claims to protect human dignity can leave a family that struggles every day with illness and poverty without water.
Water is not a luxury. Water is a fundamental right and a vital necessity.
The Democratic Party calls on the responsible institutions to take immediate measures to restore the water supply to Mr. Kalemaj's apartment.
A government is measured by how it treats the weakest, not the strongest.
"The Democratic Party remains committed to building policies that put people at the center, protect families in need, and guarantee that vital services are never used as an instrument of punishment against citizens living in poverty and facing serious illnesses," said Vangjeli./ CNA
