An article by the Dutch media outlet "Telegraaf" highlights that Albania is among three countries that may not be allowed to participate in the upcoming NATO summit.
This is because, based on calculations, our country is at risk of not reaching the 2% of the state budget, predetermined for Alliance countries, for defense spending.
Albania thus places itself alongside the Czech Republic and Slovenia, while a similar appeal was made yesterday from Brussels by the US Secretary of Defense, Pete Hegseth.
“For example, they included expenses that should not have been accounted for. According to a NATO source, Albania and Slovenia in particular performed poorly, finishing half a percentage point below. All three countries are at risk of falling short of 2 percent again this year, insiders say, and there are also concerns about Hungary, for example. Meanwhile, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is threatening to punish lagging allies and NATO itself if they continue to fail,” the article says. /CNA
