Opposition municipal councilor Ilda Zhulali declared today that consultations with citizens on the budget will begin. Invited to Syri TV, Zhulali said that after two years of refusal, the opposition's request to hold these consultations was accepted.

 According to her, this was made possible by the absence of Mayor Erion Veliaj. She also announced that three consultation sessions with Tirana residents will be held, two of which will be tomorrow.

"No one in Tirana remembers when the last proper meeting was that involved a consultation between residents, Tirana municipality employees and the participation of the Municipal Council on this important issue such as the way the taxes they pay are spent. Our repeated request, which had been rejected for two years to hold these consultations, apparently with the absence of Erion Veliaj, the wall of siege was broken and this became possible. We will hold three consultation sessions with residents and several interest groups. Tomorrow will be the first meeting at 4:00 PM in the municipality premises with the families affected by the 2019 earthquake. Tomorrow will be another meeting with businesses, as they are the largest taxpayers of the city of Tirana. But we have seen that they have a variety of problems, including hefty fines. The action to free up public spaces damaged businesses, staff were laid off and thus caused an increase in unemployment in city", said Zhulali among other things. /CNA
