The National Food Authority (AKU) has blocked, according to food safety protocols, a shipment of corn from Serbia at the Hani i Hoti Border Crossing Point.
As reported, laboratory tests have confirmed the presence of Aflatoxin B1, a mycotoxin harmful to health, in this shipment.
The corn cargo from Serbia was to be used for animal feed.
"The National Food Authority, in line with transparency and public information and in accordance with the legislation in force, announces that based on the Annual Plan of Official Controls, at the Hani Hotit Border Inspection Point, it has conducted sampling on two consignments of corn, animal feed, originating in Serbia, which, after laboratory analysis, have been confirmed to be in the presence of Aflatoxin B1.
We inform you that one of the shipments has been returned to its country of origin, while the other shipment has been blocked at the entity's premises for disposal.
"The AKU guarantees public opinion that every imported food product is subject to rigorous controls to guarantee safe food products in the protection of consumer health," the announcement states./CNA
