The head of the Albanian National Olympic Committee, Fidel Ylli, has stated today at the medal distribution ceremony for the athletes who raised the name of Albania in the Paris Olympic Games that sport does not only want passion and talent, but also money and investments.

Fidel Ylli addressed the government, which should prioritize increasing the budget for sports, since medals cannot be secured with the budget of 20 years ago.

Ylli emphasized that investments and the budget should increase now, as there is no more time to lose.

"Sport is not done only with talent and passion, it needs money and investments.

Those money and investments are not enough, in many cases they are spent and there are no results if they are not spent in the right way.

We cannot allow today in 2024 to make the mistakes of 30 years ago when athletes took the road to compete for other countries. We are not afraid of the past that we have a better law for sports.

When you see neighboring countries that have several times larger budgets, the government should make budget growth a priority. We cannot secure medals with the budgets of 20 years ago.

We cannot wait for the perfect moment to win, but we must not waste time. These investments must be made today. These budgets are needed now", said Fidel Ylli./ CNA
