Rama's statements on justice/ Klodian Tomorri: Political game to gain time

The Albanian government is facing a tense situation due to the SPAK investigations, while Prime Minister Edi Rama's positions seem to indicate an attempt to prolong time and manage the political consequences.

According to journalist Klodian Tomorri, Rama's strategy is not a direct rejection of justice, but a political game that aims to save time, combining measures against institutions and tactical retreats at critical moments.

The journalist underlines that international factors, especially the European Union, have made it clear that any attempt to limit the activity of justice will have consequences. The most obvious case is that of the deputy prime minister, where her current immunity in parliament is an obstacle that Rama is trying to manage with different tactics.

Tomorri warns that, despite the movements of the moment, the prime minister will have to face the reality of the investigations and the political costs that stem from this process.

"Look, in fact, what the prime minister is doing seems to me like a struggle, to further postpone what is inevitable for him. So, at a certain point he has to make a decision. Will he come out head-on against SPAK and the justice system and create a bunker of inviolability for himself and his ministers, or will he let the justice system do its job. So far, since the explosion of the Balluk case, that is, the Balluk and Akshi files, what the prime minister has done is that he has gained time, he has struggled to gain time. So, it seems like a game that sometimes starts an initiative against the justice institutions, then later corrects what he has started. So, I see that Mr. Rama is trying to gain more time.

He is very clear, regardless of the situation in which the European Union is, regardless of the different currents that may exist within the European Union, regardless of the lobbies and personal friendships that Mr. Rama may have within the structures of the European Union, he is very clear that forming a political bloc towards justice, that is, setting limits for justice, cannot pass easily in Brussels and cannot pass without consequences for Mr. Rama.

SPAK is seeking to bring the process that has begun to an end. But, in this specific case, the Balluku file is in parliament under immunity. So, what I am saying is that he is trying to postpone it as much as possible, but I know, despite these struggles, that at some point he will have to face it. Does Mr. Rama have the courage to take on the task of opening a frontal war with justice, to set limits for it? It seemed to me to be just a struggle. So, a struggle that seeks to gain even more time. Does he have the courage to put up a fence for justice and then bear the political costs that will come to him, which of course, the messages that were given to him in meetings with internationals, that is, with the group of deputies from the European Parliament that was in Albania, are that justice is not affected, it must do its job. The immunity of the Deputy Prime Minister must be reviewed quickly in parliament, and this message that we are giving here will not be within this office for long, simply and only within this office. So, there will be strong public positions from the European Union, from the European Commission, and so on.

And those games or, let's say, those word games that the prime minister is playing, that this is not yet the time for moral resignations, because we are in a revolutionary phase of justice, or the projects to grant legal immunity to members of the government, are certainly madness, since they have no way of getting past, let's say, the European beam, for a very simple reason. When the European Union does not recognize the instrument of immunity for its officials, for its deputies. You have seen what happens, how MEPs are arrested in the middle of the European Parliament, without any request for immunity anywhere. So, you are seeking to join the European Union, but how can Europe recognize you a privilege that it does not recognize for itself? So, that is it, the paradox in all this", said Tomorri./ CNA
