The National Food Authority has carried out checks after the spread of information about the presence of metal pieces in the Milka Biscotti XL product as well as other products, notifications made by the RASFF system.

According to AKU, immediate measures were taken to carry out the official control, from which it was established that there was no condition of this product either in the warehouse or on the sales shelves.

As for the case of the notification from the RASFF system for the dried tomato product (Pomodori Sechi) originating from Tunisia containing the pesticide Chlorpyrifos-Ethyl, in which Albania has been labeled for follow-up, it clarifies that, from the control carried out, it resulted that the subject has performed only one import to test the products and this quantity has not been traded.

Finally, regarding the notification received from the RASFF system for "Milk Protein in Brewer's Yeast", in which Albania has been tagged for follow-up, it explains that the verification carried out shows that the products were not marketed to the final consumer.

AKU reaction

Communication of the National Food Authority

The National Food Authority expresses concern about the spread of false information on the notifications received from the RASFF system, thus causing panic among consumers.

We inform the public about the management of cases by AKU for the three notifications tagged by the RASFF system as follows:

On 29.02.2024, the RASFF system informed us about the product Milka Biscotti XL with No. LOT: OPM053424 and expiry date 20.07.2024 for the presence "Metal pieces in cookies", in which Albania is tagged for follow-up.

AKU took immediate measures to carry out the official control, from which it was concluded that there was no condition of this product either in the warehouse or on the sales shelves.

Regarding the case of the notification from the RASFF system on 12.03.2024 for the dried tomato product (Pomodori Sechi) with lot: V04623 and expiration date 15.02.2026, originating from Tunisia containing the pesticide Chlorpyrifos-Ethyl, in which Albania has been tagged for follow-up, we clarify that:

From the control carried out, it was found that the subject has only carried out one import to test the products and this quantity has not been traded.

Finally, regarding the notification received from the RASFF system dated 02.05.2024, of the category: Alert on the subject: "Milk protein in beer yeast", in which Albania has been tagged for follow-up, we clarify that:

Brewer's yeast with the presence of milk protein is used as a raw material in the production of products:

"YUKYBIO Pancrik di Farro Integrale" LOT: (024 A 24), expiry date 05.11.2024,

"BioVegando Velette con Ceci e Curcuma" LOT: (397 A 24) date 19.12.2024,

The performed verification shows that both products have not been sold to the final consumer.

The National Food Authority is ready to guarantee food safety in the protection of consumer health.
